Cooking Grid
Sunday, August 22nd, 2010For camping, the Best Fire Pits.
One of the best parts of camping is building the campfire. Regardless of whether you prefer to camp by yourself, with a buddy, or the entire family, a fire pit will enhance the mood of outdoor camping. Depending on the placement and intended usage of your fire, you may choose one of many different varieties of pits. While some campers build fires primarily for the purpose of cooking, there are others who do enjoy the simple pleasure of sitting near a warm fire to relax, sing, or tell stories.
When building your campfires, here are the top three types of fire pits to consider.
One. Portable Fire Pits
Are you exhausted while carrying a large load around when you go on a camping trip?
A portable fire pit is a good choice if you want something different and it is easy to carry when you travel Because you can transform them into a barbecue pit by simply adding a screen, they are even more useful than you might have originally believed. They are mobile and move from place to place easily, due to their compact size and parts that fold in. Wheels and detachable handles are featured on some models. They often include carrying cases and an array of useful accessories.
Second, Fire Rings
Typically cast from metal, fire rings are able to burn wood, gas or propane. Fire rings are portable as well but their placement is limited.
When camping, a fire should be on level ground and circled by a fire ring. Purchasing a 30-inch fire ring for less than $50 is an affordable advantage. For convenience, you could spend a bit more and add a removable cooking grid.
3. Natural Fire Pits
Since the fire is contained rather than out in the open so some camping experts consider natural fire pits to be safer than fire rings. The results from this option will be well worth the time and physical labor required. An appropriate space for building, with a truck or a wheelbarrow and some tools like shovels and large rocks might be needed to build a natural fire pit. The best location is an area already cleared of stones and brush, where you can dig a hole at least 18 to 24 inches deep and approximately 36 inches wide. To reflect the fire’s heat, be sure to line the “bowl” with the large flat rocks. Utilize rocks that aren’t large for the sides, then use a cooking grip above in order to grill.
